More Images of Sutherland, antique and vintage, on Postcards

The Pier, Bettyhill. A Valentine series postcard sent in 1918.
Stroma Harbour. A card sent in 1904. By Johnston of Wick. I'm sneaking this important and rare image into the Sutherland section, as there isn't one for Caithness. Stroma is an island lying to the north of mainland Scotland. This photo was taken around the time when its population was at its highest. It had a population of 375 in 1901. The number of boats shown here is testament to the high numbers. From thereon, the population was in decline, and it is now uninhabited.
Sea Bathing, Dornoch. Brave souls entering the water, one in a particularly fine costume. An R.R. Johnstone, Dornoch card sent in 1908.
Loch Eriboll. A postcrad sent in July 1957. Interesting for me because it is not the usual view down the loch from Heilem, but rather of the cliff at the southern end, Creag na Feulin. This rock contains much evidence of geological thrusting. A scarce postcard view.
Claonal Bay, Loch Shin, Lairg. A view, remarkable, perhaps, for being so unremarkable! I'm not sure if it is Claonal or Glaonal.
The Rhiconnich Hotel, a lonely spot. The postcard is published by J.B. White Ltd., a "Best of All" series.
Naver River Bay. An early image, posted in 1913, the card published by A. McKay, Bettyhill.
Looking Towards Ben Clebrig and Loch Shin from Above Lairg. A J.B. White "Best of All" series postcard.
Glan Cassley Falls, near Lairg. The River Cassley rises on Ben More Assynt. Salmon have to negotiate these falls.
Talmine Bay. A postcard without publisher's details, the stamp suggesting 1937 - 1952. The largest house might well have been the Post Offoce at that time.
James Ellis's shop in Ardgay, a card sent in 1904. The rubble seen bottom right is from the Post Office, which was being built next door at this time. There seems to be some confusion as to whether Ardgay was in Ross-shire or Sutherland, so I am adding this rather good photo to both pages!

Achneskick, Bettyhill. Situated on the northern edge of the village. A card published by C. Robertson, Bettyhill, and sent in 1931.
Fishwives' Walking Race, Dornoch Games. Less energy required for this contest, again a feature of the Dornoch Games. A Johnstone postcard, no date.
