The image above shows an artist perched below the Bracklinn Falls, near Callander, Artist unknown.
I am in awe of the artistic skills displayed during the Victorian era - not just in the professional arena (and Scotland has a fine tradition of its own), but also in the amateur. Drawing was a skill very much respected amongst those who had the time and inclination (not to mention the income!) to pursue the hobby, and I am keen to seek out even the most humble effort, especially if it depicts the far north of the country. These images are, after all, the equivalent of the later photograph and postcard. I have a small number of images that capture or illustrate this pursuit in action which I am pleased to share with you. Please see the page on this website "Artists at work."
