I've just returned from a week in Edinburgh, where I have toured the bookshops making sure they know of the recent publication of my book, The Immeasurable Wilds. I was delighted with the reception they gave it. There has been one very early review, by Rebecca Hay, who called it "this excellent book....a first class read" (Global Traveller and Lifestyle magazine). You can order the book from any good bookshop, or direct from Whittles Publishing. I have also listed copies on ebay, which I will be happy to sign should you want that.
I've added two contrasting images to the website pages today, one, in 'Scotland Mocked', a typical racy Fred Spurgin postcard titled "A Tart in Tartan". I presume that the implications of the word 'Tart' were the same in the early 20th century.
The other is a more serious portrait that I was particularly pleased to stumble upon: "Sir David Dundas, Commander in Chief" by Richard Dighton, published in 1810. Dundas was one for the surveyors employed by General Roy in mapping the country after Culloden. Like others in the team, Dundas rose through the ranks to become eventually a General. I have inserted this image on the "Maps of Scotland" page.
