12/07/2022. I have now returned from my journey to the far north-west of Scotland. The purpose of my visit was a trip to the Stack of Glencoul, where we would be able to admire the contact point of the Glencoul Thrust as well as enjoy a boat trip across the loch. Alas, the mist was lying low when we arrived in the morning, and reluctantly, a decision was made to postpone the expedition. However, it gave me the opportunity to walk down to the bottom of Loch Glendhu, where Charles Clarke and his family could be found at the beginning of the 19th century. I have always been moved by William Daniell's description of his journey down to the house, a place visited by few people in those days before a decent road had been built (see chapter 6 of The Immeasurable Wilds). I describe my journey on this website, the page titled "Loch Glendhu Walk."
