More Scottish sketches on this photo album page. The first are by William Waterhouse, brother of Theodore, Edwin and Alfred. The latter was a successful architect, whose designs include the Natural History Museum, London. Edwin was an accomplished accountant who teamed up with Price to form Price Waterhouse (now PriceWaterhouseCoopers). Theodore was a solicitor, his name still present in the firm Field Fisher Waterhouse which still practises today. Clearly an accomplished family, so it is fitting that William's sketches should be of a high standard. All done with pencil, they are restrained, yet effective. I have increased the contrast in some of them to show the detail, some of which is quite faint.
There are four images in full colour by M White, taken from an incompleted album that also contains a few English views. The Scottish ones depict Loch Nell, near Oban.
Both the above two sets date from 19th century. The third set is a little later, perhaps mid-20th century. We are back principally to pencil, with some of the images showing the bare outlines of the landscapes, and one with very effective cloud studies. They are by William George and Eileen Lewis. The former was a professional illustrator, whose work can be seen in the Tablet Magazine.
