A Set of 19th Centruy Magic Lantern Slides relating to Geology
I have added this slide show of a set of late-19th Century Geological magic lantern slides. They are, I believe, of limited interest, though the photographs showing geologists in the field might be of some importance (I have given them their own page "Some Victorian Geologists"). Most, but not all of the images below are of sites in Scotland. I suspect that studios like that of George Washington Wilson have recycled their stock, realising they could reclassify them as 'geological.' The Inchnadamph image, for example, here titled a "Bared Thrust Plane" was earlier given the less impressive title "Underground River." But I thought these photos were still worth adding to the website.
As always, you can click on the photo if it appears to be cropped, or if you wish to control the display manually.
